Core Innovation Services

Canadian innovation in the health tech sector is accelerating, however, solutions are not being developed at the same rate. This is intensified by the large disconnect between clinicians, researchers and companies as each has their own field of expertise.

We help advance companies through the innovation pathway by bridging industries and ensure that valuable research transforms into tangible solutions for Canadian hospitals.

The Core Innovation team can support innovators and start-ups in the following ways:

Adoption and Scaling

The Adoption/Scaling stream works with sustainable companies that have products on the market and that have product development and commercialization goals for an innovative new health-tech product with pediatric, geriatric and/or long-term care applications.

Invention

The Invention stream supports clinical inventors and early-stage companies from the idea stage and challenge identification through to prototyping and beta testing. We help founders build a business case for their health care solution and identify clinical champions to transition the company to the next stage.

Commercialization

The Commercialization stream supports early-stage health-tech companies that have developed a working prototype or minimal viable product and are now looking to refine and validate this product within a pediatric and/or aging population, rehabilitation, complex continuing care or long-term care clinical setting.

Research

The Research chapter supports companies at any stage in the program to evaluate their technology in the healthcare setting, from product discovery to clinical trials. We will guide you through the research process, and support the collection of data from patients, clinicians, and other hospital stakeholders to drive evidence-based development of your technology.

Innovation in action: collaborations and projects

Core Innovation works with, and supports, innovators whose passion and focus is to support children and youth rehabilitation through the means of technological innovations. The program continues to bring on early-stage start ups and innovators in order to help translate new technologies into pediatric care solutions.

The 8-80 Collaborative

The 8-80 Collaborative directly supports innovators and companies in developing and commercializing technologies that deliver health solutions for patients from youth to older adults. Supported by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), the 8-80 Collaborative is a partnership between the CHEO Research Institute and Bruyère. Together we support companies pursuing innovations aimed at those young and old, from eight seconds to more than 80 years.
