Ottawa, Ontario — Thursday March 27, 2025

Dr. Jason Berman, CEO and Scientific Director, CHEO Research Institute, and Vice President Research, CHEO, was presented the King Charles III Coronation Medal by the Honourable Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to Ontario health care.

In the letter that accompanied the medal, Minister Jones referenced CHEO’s world-first AI algorithm that helps identify children with a potential rare disease and flags them for referral to genetics, as an example of the innovative research happening at the CHEO Research Institute under his leadership that leads to better care for kids.

“It has been my passion and privilege to work in pediatric health care for more than 20 years as a clinician and a scientist and to lead the CHEO Research Institute for the past six years,” said Dr. Berman, pediatric hematologist/oncologist and professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa. “The incredible work, ingenuity, and dedication of everyone at the CHEO Research Institute helps us all push the limits of discovery so that children and youth can live their best life. This medal is a representation of the collective and cumulative efforts of the researchers, research professionals and research leadership team at CHEO.

Congratulations Dr. Berman on this special recognition and thank you for all that you do in pursuit of discoveries to inspire the best life for every child and youth.
