Development of a Framework and Comprehensive National Database of Pediatric COVID-19 Research in Canada

Purpose: Collaboration is essential for efficient research. However, the current approach to research in Canada is often fragmented. This has been particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, when research efforts accelerated rapidly and many projects were duplicated unnecessarily.  As a result, duplicate studies have competed for sites and study participants, which in turn has delayed the translation of evidence to the bedside, or caused studies to terminate early due to recruitment challenges.  An essential first step for enhancing Canada-wide collaboration on pediatric pandemic research is the development of an exhaustive database of existing studies. The purpose of this project is to develop a national database of pediatric COVID-19 research.

Methods: A database was created using KNACK which is a non-coding online software. Canadian pediatric COVID-19 studies found through publicly available resources, such as PUBMED and clinicaltrials.gov, have been and continue to be added to the following database with the goal of creating a complete national pediatric COVID database.
