Dr. Refika Ersu is a pediatric respirologist with a clinical and research expertise in sleep disordered breathing, chronic respiratory failure and home ventilation. After completing medical school and pediatrics residency in Istanbul, Turkey, she worked as a research fellow with Prof. Bush at Royal Brompton Hospital in London, UK. She then finished a 3 year of pediatric respirology and sleep training in Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, California, US. After returning to Marmara University Hospital, Istanbul, she started the first pediatric sleep laboratory and home ventilation program in Turkey. She is currently working as a pediatric respirologist and director of sleep laboratory and home ventilation program in Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Ottawa, Canada. She is also a senior researcher at the Research Institute and I teach and hold a professor position at University of Ottawa.
She was the previous secretary and chair elect of pediatric physiology, sleep group for European Respiratory Society (ERS), and currently serves on the Pediatric Long-range Planning committee. She is one of the co-editors of the European Respiratory Review. She has been one of the educators of ERS Pediatric Summer School since it started and worked on many task force for ERS. She also is the chair of American Thoracic Society Sleep and Neurobiology Assembly webinar and journal club subcommittee.
