Dr. Melanie Bechard received her medical degree from the University of Toronto in 2015 and completed Pediatrics residency at the Hospital for Sick Children in 2018. She completed Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship at CHEO in 2020. In 2021, Dr. Bechard received her Master in Public Health degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Bechard has been a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician at CHEO and Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa since 2021.
Dr. Bechard believes the emergency department serves as a barometer of a nation’s social well-being. She hopes to use her experience as a clinician to develop research studies that inform healthy public policy. Her broad research interests include patient marginalization and access to care, injury prevention, and economic evaluation. Dr. Bechard currently serves as Chair of Canadian Doctors for Medicare.
