My CHEO Story

My story with the CHEO began in 2016 when my family moved to Ottawa. Soon after we moved there I visited CHEO with an intension to volunteer there. But the administrator at the Patience Experience Division told me that CHEO needed a Nepali interpreter right away and I should start from there. And I did. Then in 2019 I joined the CHEO-RI as the Policy Reviewer.

Why I'm involved

I am a socially conscious person with a keen interest in research and development. I have been actively participating in many of the social activities in my community. For instance, I was a “Block Parent” for over 20 years and have raised funds for my community’s much needed social programs. I am also one of the Founding members of the Fredericton Cultural Centre Inc. In addition, I had an opportunity to prepare a descriptive performance report for the Auditor General of NB on behalf of the Department of Health and Wellness (then) in Fredericton, New Brunswick. This report was about the government-assisted social programs, called the Early Childhood Initiatives. In the process of preparing the report, I got to read a lot about Canada’s healthcare system. I hope my firsthand knowledge in the healthcare system and my unique perspective from the point of view of the first Nepalese immigrant (first to Fredericton, New Brunswick) to Canada, would be an asset to the Research Team at the CHEO-RI.
